Entry Requirements

Candidates should have (a) a Hong Kong First or Second Class Honours degree in a relevant subject in applied or natural science (including botany, biology, biotechnology, ecology, environmental science, forestry, geography, microbiology, zoology or equivalent subject), or equivalent qualifications; (b) three years’ post-graduate experience in an appropriate field or a Hong Kong higher degree or post-graduate diploma in a relevant subject listed in (a) above, or equivalent qualifications; and (c) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
(Note: ‘Grade C’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE.)

Duties

The Nature Conservation Officer is mainly deployed on (a) performing forestry and vegetation management work; (b) planning, managing, developing and conserving protected areas; (c) undertaking fauna, flora, endangered species, and habitat conservation work, including law enforcement, education, advisory duties, and ecological baseline studies; (d) assessing and monitoring ecological aspect of environmental impact assessment process; (e) undertaking applied research in the relevant disciplines; and (f) carrying out any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
(Note: May be required to work irregular hours; perform shift duties and emergency duties related to hill fires, typhoon duties or other natural disasters.)

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidates will be appointed on 1 year non-civil service contract terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

$44,150 per month
Rest days, public holidays (or substituted holidays), maternity leave, paternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. 14 days paid annual leave will be granted but there will be no end-of-contract gratuity.
