Entry Requirements

Candidates should
(a) have some practical knowledge of and a minimum of 18 months’ experience in plumbing work;
(b) have experience in welding work; and
(c) be able to communicate in Cantonese/ Chinese and simple English; read simple Chinese and simple English; and write simple Chinese or simple English.
Remarks
(1) Candidates will be required to pass a trade test.
(2) For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will be taken into account only if two candidates are considered equal in all other aspects.)
 

Duties

A Workman I (Plumber) is mainly deployed to assist Artisans in carrying out plumbing work, including –
(a) installing/disconnecting pipe-lines;
(b) repairing/maintaining water tanks, sanitary system, water taps, water supply system and flushing equipment; and
(c) carrying out minor repairs to choking and clogging of drainage, gully-traps, water closet compartments, sewage drains, etc.

(Note:
(a) required to work 45 hours net per week (excluding meal break);
(b) may be required to (i) wear uniform; (ii) work irregular hours; and
(c) Workmen I are subject to posting to fill vacancies and carry out different duties in the same grade in other bureaux/departments when the need arises.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years. Upon passage of probation bar, he/she may be considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 3 ($14,620) per month to Model Scale 1 Pay Scale Point 13 ($17,870) per month

General Notes

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(i) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. Application Forms [G.F. 340 (Rev. 3/2013)] are obtainable from any Home Affairs Enquiry Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department or any Job Centres of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. The said form can also be downloaded from the Civil Service Bureau's website (http://www.csb.gov.hk).

Applicants should state clearly in their application forms details of their academic qualifications, skills and working experience. Completed application forms, together with copies of supporting documents of working experience, submitted by post should reach the Appointments Unit, 35/F, Arsenal House, Police Headquarters, 1 Arsenal Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong on or before 26 May 2022. Please specify the title of the post being applied for on the envelope.

To avoid delayed or unsuccessful delivery of applications by post, please ensure that the correct address is clearly printed or written on the envelope and sufficient postage has been affixed before posting. Mail items bearing insufficient postage will NOT be delivered to this Department and will be returned to the sender or disposed of by the Hongkong Post, where appropriate. Applicants will bear any consequences arising from paying insufficient postage. The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of application and /or submission of supporting documents.

Candidates who are selected for trade test/interview will normally receive an invitation in about 10 to 14 weeks from the closing date for application. Longer time may be required under certain circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received. Those who are not invited for trade test/interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
