Entry Requirements

Applicants should –
(1) be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(2) be full-time students of post-graduate programmes in Science/Engineering, preferably with background knowledge of forensic science and/or statistics in post-secondary institutions;
(3) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 4 in Chinese Language and English Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent [Note (2)];
(4) be proficient in using MS Office application; and
(5) be fluent in both Cantonese and English.
Remarks
(1) Employment Period : June to August 2020 (around three months)
(2) For appointment purpose,
(i) Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) are accepted as equivalent to Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE;
(ii) Grade D in Use of English of the HKALE or Grade D in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) are accepted as equivalent to Level 4 in English Language of the HKDSEE; and
(iii) Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are also accepted. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
 

Duties

Summer interns are mainly deployed to –
(1) learn the fundamental concepts and techniques of the forensic scientific work in relation to the Research and Development (R&D) project(s) to be involved;
(2) assist professional officers in conducting R&D project(s) pertaining to physical evidence examination, involving experimental design, data collection and/or analysis;
(3) compile a formal report on the research work conducted in the internship period; and
(4) prepare and deliver an oral presentation/seminar on the research work done in the internship period.

Terms of Appointment

Summer interns are engaged under non-civil service appointment. They are normally required to work 44 hours per week. They are eligible for rest days, statutory holidays, general holidays, and sickness days. They are subject to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).

(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. They should submit copies of their official transcripts and certificates by mail to the below enquiry address.
(h) Candidates who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation within four to six weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.
