Entry Requirements

Candidates should have –
(a) a medical qualification registrable in Hong Kong under the Medical Registration Ordinance, Cap. 161;
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 1 or above results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent (See Note (4)); and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English; and
(c) a pass result in the Basic Law test (BLT) (See Note (5)).


(Remarks: Applicants without the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, but have met the other entry requirements may also apply. )
Remarks
(1) Preference may be given to candidates having completed the hospital-based training in the relevant specialties/ subspecialties.
(2) Subject to prevailing situation, candidates may be considered for the granting of increments for experiences in the relevant specialties/ subspecialties. The information on the maximum pay point is for reference only and it may be subject to changes.
(3) Applications from serving civil service Medical and Health Officer would not normally be considered.
(4) (a) Candidates’ results in the Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE) papers of the CRE are classified as Level 2, Level 1 or Fail, with Level 2 being the highest.
(b) For civil service appointment purpose, Level 5 or above in Chinese Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE); or Grade C or above in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE), are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UC paper of the CRE. Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the HKALE, are accepted as equivalent to Level 1 in the UC paper of the CRE.
(c) Level 5 or above in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade C or above in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade C or above in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A Level), are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UE paper of the CRE. Level 4 in English Language of the HKDSEE; or Grade D in Use of English of the HKALE; or Grade D in English Language of the GCE A Level, are accepted as equivalent to Level 1 in the UE paper of the CRE.
(d) Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the UE paper of the CRE. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
(e) Candidates who do not have Level 1 in UC paper of the CRE by the time of appointment may also be appointed. However, only a limited number of applicants who do not possess the requisite Chinese language proficiency but are able to speak fluent Cantonese may be appointed subject to the operational needs of the Department. The rest of the applicants will only be considered for appointment subject to their fulfilling of requirements (a) and (b) above.
(5) All applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their Basic Law knowledge. A pass result in the BLT is an entry requirement for civil service jobs requiring degree / professional qualifications. Only those candidates who have passed the BLT will be considered for appointment. Attaining a score at or above 53 out of the full mark of 100 (i.e. getting at least 8 out of 15 questions correct) will be deemed to have a pass result in BLT. The BLT result will also constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment. For candidates who have not taken the BLT or have not attained a pass result in the BLT at the time of application, they may still apply for the job and arrangements will be made for them to take the BLT during the recruitment process.
 

Duties

Mainly deployed on clinical and non-clinical duties in the following programme areas:
(a) statutory functions;
(b) disease prevention;
(c) health promotion;
(d) curative care; and
(e) rehabilitation.

(Remarks: Selected candidates may be required to work shifts outside normal working hours and perform on-call duties.)

Terms of Appointment

A new recruit will normally be appointed on civil service probationary terms for three years, during which the new recruit is expected to complete the Basic Specialist Training (BST) and pass all related examination(s). Upon passage of probation bar, the officer may be considered for appointment on the prevailing agreement terms or permanent terms depending on the officer’s progress on completion of BST as appropriate.\r\nFor further appointment on permanent terms, officers should complete all required Basic Specialist Training (BST) in an assigned specialty/ subspecialty and pass all examination(s) related to BST as required by the relevant College under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM). Training for completion of BST in an assigned specialty/ subspecialty, including hospital attachments, may be arranged. Please refer to the attachment of this job advertisement for the specialty/subspecialty required by the relevant college under the HKAM recognised by the respective stream.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Master Pay Scale Point 32 ($70,465) to Master Pay Scale Point 44B ($121,790) per month (See Notes (2)&(3)).
